The song turns toward Guerrero’s Christian faith and an appeal to Jesus for freedom, healing and restoration. Guerrero hopes “Addiction” opens conversations about trauma, grief and loss beneath destructive behavior. It also addresses hidden struggles within Christian communities, where leaders and congregants may privately battle lust, shame, depression, anxiety or isolation.

Guerrero hopes the song adds to that conversation by addressing trauma, isolation and hopelessness.
Guerrero’s music and film career was already gaining momentum before he spent more than seven years overseas, including extended periods in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the Middle East, much of it in high-threat environments. Years later, an ordinary machine buzzer reminded Guerrero of warning alarms he had heard overseas. The moment illustrated how sounds, environments and experiences can unexpectedly trigger people struggling with trauma-related conditions, whose effects are not always visible to others. Guerrero’s years overseas gave him greater grace and compassion for those struggling with PTSD, addiction and trauma-related challenges, strengthening his desire to support people carrying invisible wounds.
