Industrial Info Resources (IIR), a global provider of trusted industrial data and market intelligence, launched the Market Analytics Engine (MAE), an interactive industrial spending forecast that strategy, planning and business development teams analyze, customize and stress-test by industry, sector and geography. MAE is available for purchase and is accessed through IIR’s PECWeb platform.

MAE gives users a 10-year view of industrial infrastructure spending, with five years of history plus a five-year forecast.

MAE at a Glance

How MAE Works

MAE builds on IIR’s existing industrial spending forecast methodology and proprietary duration model. It adds enhancements to how users interact with, customize and analyze the forecast.

The bottom-up layer of IIR’s forecast is built on phone-verified “trusted data.” IIR’s global researchers continuously track, monitor and update 338,000+ industrial plants and 253,000+ capital and maintenance projects worldwide (as of September 2026), including changes in timing, scope, probability and other factors that can affect expected spending. That project-level research is combined with a top-down layer that accounts for broader indicators such as economic conditions, commodity prices and population growth.

Why Continuous Forecasting Matters

IIR developed MAE as companies increasingly review and fine-tune their strategic plans throughout the year rather than relying on a single annual planning cycle. Project data is updated continuously, and the MAE forecast is refreshed quarterly to reflect how asset and project owners recalibrate their investment plans and budgets to match shifts in market conditions.

For instance, IIR’s project pipeline for hyperscale data center construction totals $7.5 trillion as of September 2026, according to IIR’s PECWeb database.

“Planning doesn’t stop once a company sets its annual strategy,” said Michael Bergen, President of Industrial Info Resources. “Markets change, projects move and investment decisions shift, and MAE gives our clients a much easier way to see what is actually driving those changes in the forecast.”

Bergen added, “The best forecasts are not static. They are dynamic, and they are only as robust as the data they are built on. Combining our top-down and bottom-up methodology with human-in-the-loop primary research helps ensure that. For fast-moving industries like hyperscale data center construction, quarterly forecast updates capture the latest construction schedules and status changes.”

Coverage and Customization

MAE covers 12 industries and their related sectors. Capital expenditure (capex) is separated into grassroot projects, expansions and additions, and other in-plant capital spending. Maintenance spending, including turnarounds and outages, is also included.

The industries tracked are Power Generation, Upstream, Midstream and Downstream Oil & Gas, Petroleum Refining, Alternative Fuels, Chemical Processing, Metals & Minerals (including mining), Pulp/Paper/Wood, Food & Beverage, Industrial Manufacturing, and Pharmaceutical & Biotech. The five-year forecast also covers trending sectors such as offshore Oil & Gas production and Renewable Power Generation.

Users can customize the forecast by industry, sector and geography, starting with a global view and moving through world or market regions to individual countries. Users of the North America forecast can analyze spending at the state or county level.

IIR also offers additional customized forecast options covering 50+ equipment and services factors. IIR Factors size spending demand for equipment and services types such as pipes, valves and fittings, pumps or scaffolding.

Shaheen Chohan, Senior Vice President of Analytics at Industrial Info Resources, added, “Factoring gives a further layer of precision and relevance to the topline industry-level forecast numbers and adds a huge amount of unique granularity across multiple industries and their sectors. Factoring is an additional ingredient to help size demand for different products, support or stress-test revenue assumptions and cross-reference against existing internal sales and business data.”

Availability and What’s Next

MAE is now available for purchase and is accessed through IIR’s PECWeb platform. IIR’s MAE Labor Forecast, due for release in Q4 2026, will size man-hour demand, supply and prevailing wage rates across multiple craft labor types.

MAE follows two recent IIR announcements, “The Answer Age: How Industrial Info Is Bringing Trusted Data to AI” and the launch of IIR Envoy™ MCP.
