Alpina Equity (“Alpina”), a private investment firm focused on special situations and complex middle-market investment opportunities, announced that Michael Martin has joined the firm as Managing Partner.

Martin will work alongside Managing Partner Thomas Wehinger to lead Alpina’s continued growth, including investment sourcing, execution and the expansion of the firm’s relationships with corporate sellers, management teams, advisors and capital partners.

Alpina invests in established middle-market businesses, with a particular focus on corporate divestitures, carve-outs and other special situations where transaction complexity or unique circumstances create opportunities for a flexible investment approach.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Michael to Alpina Equity,” said Thomas Wehinger, Managing Partner. “Michael brings significant transaction experience, strong judgment and a highly complementary skill set. I am excited to build Alpina’s next phase of growth together as we expand our investment activities and capabilities.”

Prior to joining Alpina, Martin served as a Director at a Los Angeles-based private equity firm with multibillion-dollar assets under management, where he led and executed complex acquisitions, corporate divestitures and carve-outs across a range of industries and geographies.

Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Harvard University, where he was a member of the varsity baseball team. Following graduation, he played professional baseball for three years in the Oakland Athletics organization before beginning his career in investment banking.

“We believe our flexible approach and transaction experience position Alpina well to be a trusted partner to corporate sellers, management teams, advisors and capital providers,” said Martin. “I look forward to expanding the firm’s investment activities and capabilities and building Alpina for the long term.”
